Lighting Level I

“Understanding Illumination”

Light is something we all, by definition, take for granted. To capture images, the camera must receive the light bouncing off each physical thing in the frame and transfer the information into a digital code. If you want to create fine images, you must “learn to see” the reflected light of each object in the frame and interpret or modify it before it enters the lens - “You must learn to paint with light!”

• Exploring Sources of Light: Sunlight, Incandescent, LED, Florescent, & Strobe
• Differentiating Light as it bounces off a surface and into your lens.
• Metering light for proper exposure settings
• Modifying Light sources: Diffusion, egg-crates, umbrellas, soft-box’s, chicken coop’s, etc.
• Bounce Light: White, silver foil, gold foil, mirror…
• Understanding different types of Lighting Equipment and their uses
• Understanding the fundamentals of light as a Spectrum of Color
